The emotions and Bach flowers
Emotions are an integral part of our lives and their management gives rhythm to our daily lives. But what are emotions and why do we try to control them?
What do we mean by emotions?
According to the Larousse dictionary, emotion is a "transient affective reaction of fairly high intensity, usually caused by stimulation from the environment". Etymologically, the word comes from the Latin "exmovere" or "emovere" which means "to move outward" or "to set in motion". Emotions are therefore reactions to external stimuli that we all feel differently and that are expressed in a unique way for each of us. They are also linked to our survival instinct. For example, the fear caused by an encounter with a bear in the forest makes us run away to avoid the danger.
"Don't forget that the small emotions are the great captains of our lives and that we obey them without knowing it".
Van Gogh
So if these emotions are a kind of "natural mechanism", a defence against situations in our environment, why do we try to manage them?
Why manage your emotions?
If we let an emotion take over without trying to understand it, it will tend to amplify and influence our decision-making at the time.
In general, we are able to regulate our emotions and we sometimes do so unconsciously. This allows us to maintain good social relationships on a daily basis. They come and go quickly and very often disappear as quickly as they appeared. What can be a problem is when a negative emotion is expressed excessively or in a recurring, long-term manner. Accepting it without judgment, understanding it and expressing it will be the best way to avoid being overwhelmed.

Some emotions can also cause physical reactions in us: tears, increased heart rate, secretion of hormones, stomach aches... Emotions could accentuate or even be the cause of some pains or diseases. This was the observation made at the beginning of the 20th century by Dr Edward Bach who then did everything he could to find a solution to these excessive emotions and their consequences. He found the answers in plants and more precisely, in flowers.
The origin of Bach flowers
Dr Edward Bach, the famous English homeopath, thus devoted the last 10 years of his life to research into wild flowers that respond favourably to difficult emotions. Through these flowers, he sought to help his fellow man, both emotionally and in terms of health, because according to him, everything is linked: the body, the soul and the mind.
"To feel well in your head is to feel well in your body. This is exactly the philosophy of Dr Edward Bach when he said “As long as the soul, body and mind are in harmony, nothing can affect us". The patient's emotional health takes precedence over physical symptoms in the first instance.

Many of his remedies were tested on patients and a reduction in symptoms, or even a cure, could be observed following the administration of Bach Flowers. He then defined the emotional states in 7 major families and found 38 Flowers that correspond to specific emotions. Since then, Bach Flower Remedies have become one of the most widely used emotional therapies in our society. Indeed, floral elixirs act deep down because of their subtle character, and help us to return to an emotional balance.
Created in 1999, the Biofloral laboratory was inspired by the philosophy of Doctor Bach and in particular his writings, to reproduce the formulas for these floral elixirs on the volcanic soils of the Auvergne, in the heart of nature. The energising vibration of the land, the respect for the original formula, the picking of wild flowers and the use of Organic Demeter Cognac are all key elements that enable each Biofloral elixir to harmonise the psychic and energy balance. Nature offers what is required to meet our physiological needs, but it seems that we can also find the essentials to support us in managing our emotions!
